EVENING PRAYERS

The Evening Prayers are a great way to finish the day with Consecrations to both Jesus and Mary, Three Hail Mary’s Devotion and Invocations, prayers for our loved ones, for our Country, and the little known but very important Apostolic Pardon Prayer.

Consecration To Jesus Prayer: O Jesus, we know that You are merciful and that You gave Your Heart for us, that was crowned with thorns by our sins. We know that even today You are still pleading with us so that we will not be lost. Jesus, remember us when we are in sin. By means of Your Sacred Heart, grant us, that all men love one another; Cause hatred to disappear from among men. Show us Your Love, for we all love You, and want You to protect us with your Shepherd’s Heart and free us from all sin. Jesus, enter into each heart. Knock on the door of our hearts. Be patient and unwearied with us. We are still closed, since we still have not yet understood Your love for us. Knock persistently and grant, O Good Jesus, that we open our hearts to You, at least when we will have remembered the passion You suffered for us. Amen. (Source: Society of Jesus)

Consecration To Mary Prayer: O Immaculate Heart of Mary, overflowing with goodness, show us Your love for us. May the flame of Your heart, O Mary, descend upon all mankind. We love You so. Impress true love in our hearts that we may have a continuous desire for You. O Mary, meek and humble of heart, remember us when we are in sin. You know that all men sin. Grant to us by means of Your Immaculate Heart, to be healed from every spiritual illness. In doing so, we then will be able to gaze upon the goodness of Your Maternal Heart, and thus be converted through the flame of Your Heart. Amen. (Source: Society of Jesus)

Three Hail Mary’s Devotion: I offer these Three Hail Marys in recognition of the three privileges of Power, Wisdom, and Merciful Tenderness conferred by the Adorable Trinity on the Blessed Virgin:

· The first Hail Mary is in honor of God the Father...Hail Mary…

· The second Hail Mary is in honor of God the Son...Hail Mary…

· The third Hail Mary is in honor of God the Holy Ghost...Hail Mary

O my Mother, preserve me from mortal sin during this night, tomorrow, and all the days of my life.  Amen.

Promises

Serenity Prayer:  God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever and ever in the next. Amen.

Invocations: I offer these Invocations to earn Indulgences for the souls in Purgatory.

  • Holy Mother, pierce me through; in my heart each wound renew, of my Savior crucified.

  • Mary most sorrowful, Mother of Christians, pray for us.

  • Holy Spirit, Spirit of Truth, come into our hearts; shed the brightness of Thy light upon the nations, that they may please Thee in unity of faith.  Amen.

  • God the Holy Ghost, have mercy on us.  Amen.

  • May our hearts be cleansed, O Lord, by the in-pouring of the Holy Spirit, and may He render them fruitful by watering them with His heavenly dew.  Amen.

  • May the grace of the Holy Spirit enlighten our senses and our hearts.  Amen.

  • Our Lady’s Sorrowing: Eternal Father, I offer Thee the wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ to heal the wounds of our souls. Amen. In honor of the Blessed Virgin’s Sorrowing, I offer 7 Hail Marys, followed by the invocation: “Virgin most sorrowful, pray for us”; Virgo Dolorissima, ora pro nobis.”

Promises   Partial Indulgences for each of the above

Prayer For Healing: Dear Jesus, divine physician and healer of the sick, we turn to You in this time of Your servant(s) (_________’s) illness. O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and sorrow with Your gentle love, and grant us the grace and strength to accept this burden. Dear God, we place our worries in Your hands. We place our sick under Your care and humbly ask that You restore Your servant(s) to health again. Above all, grant us the grace to acknowledge Your holy will and know that whatsoever You do, You do for the love of us. Amen.

Prayer For The Recently Departed: Absolve, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the soul of Thy servant(s), (_________________), from every bond of sin, that being raised in the glory of the resurrection, he/she may be refreshed among the Saints and Elect; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer For The Souls in Purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer you the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

JESUS, THANK YOU.

Promises

Prayer For Our Children: St. Monica, exemplary mother of the great Augustine, you perseveringly pursued your wayward son, not with wild threats but with prayerful cries to heaven. Intercede for all mothers in our day so that they may learn to draw their children to God. Teach them how to remain close to their children, even the prodical sons and daughters who have sadly gone astray. Amen.

Prayer For Priests: O God, we beg Thee to give Thy Church today many priests after Thine own Sacred Heart. May they be worthy representatives of Christ the Good Shepherd. May they wholeheartedly devote themselves to prayer and penance; be examples of humility and poverty; shining models of holiness; tireless and powerful preachers of the Word of God; and zealous dispensers of Thy grace in the Sacraments.  May their loving devotion to Thy Son Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and to Mary His Immaculate Mother, be the twin fountains of fruitfulness for their apostolic labor.  (St. John Mary Vianney’s Prayer)

The Unceasing Prayer (For Priests):  Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you. Save priestly souls. Save souls.  Amen.

Green Scapular Prayer:  Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us, now and at the hour of our death. Amen

Now I lay me Prayer: Now I lay me down to sleep, pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, pray the Lord my soul to take.

Apostolic Pardon Prayer: Dear God, I pray for the grace to be able to receive the last rites of the Catholic Church including the Sacraments of Penance, Anointing of the Sick and Viaticum (Holy Communion given at the point of death as food for the eternal journey).  I also pray to receive the Apostolic Pardon.

Prayer For Our Country

“O Most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy, at this most critical time, we entrust the United States of America to your loving care.

Most Holy Mother, we beg you to reclaim this land for the glory of your Son. Overwhelmed with the burden of the sins of our nation, we cry to you from the depths of our hearts and seek refuge in your motherly protection. Look down with mercy upon us and touch the hearts of our people. Open our minds to the great worth of human life and to the responsibilities that accompany human freedom.

Free us from the falsehoods that lead to the evil of abortion and threaten the sanctity of family life. Grant our country the wisdom to reclaim that God’s law is the foundation on which this nation was founded, and that He alone is the True Source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

O Beautiful Mother, give us the courage to reject the culture of death and the strength to build a new Culture of Life.”

Amen.

By the the Sign of the Cross, (make a cross on your forehead)

from all our enemies deliver us, (make a cross on your lips)

O Lord our God. (make a cross over your heart)

(Now make the traditional Sign of the Cross): In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
