1. Begin the Chaplet as follows:

a. Make the Sign of the Cross

b. Say the Act of Contrition

2. Say the following prayers before announcing each Sorrow:

a. O God, come to my assistance

b. O Lord, make haste to help me

c Glory Be…

3. Announce each of the Seven Sorrows individually

First Sorrow - The Prophecy of Simeon

Second Sorrow - The Flight into Egypt

Third Sorrow - The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple

Fourth Sorrow - The Meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross

Fifth Sorrow - The Crucifixion of Jesus with Mary at the foot of the Cross

Sixth Sorrow - The Taking of the Body of Jesus down from the Cross

Seventh Sorrow - The Placing of the Body of Jesus in the Tomb

4. Then say the following for each Sorrow:

a. Our Father Who art in Heaven…

b. Hail Mary Full of Grace… (Say 7 times)

c. My Mother! Share thy grief with me. Let me bear thee company to mourn thy Jesus’ death with Thee.

5. Return to 2a. for next Sorrow:

6. After completing all 7 Sorrows, then complete the Chaplet by saying the following prayers:

a. Hail Holy Queen…

b. Let us pray: O God, at whose Passion, according to the prophecy of Simeon, a sword of sorrow did pierce through the most sweet soul of the glorious Virgin and Mother Mary; grant that we, who commemorate and reverence Her sorrows, may experience the blessed effect of Thy Passion, who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

7. Say Three Hail Mary’s in honor of the tears shed by Our Lady.
