EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Archbishop Fulton Sheen never missed a day of prayer in the presence of Jesus in his 54 years of priesthood. He said that when you pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament daily (whether in the Tabernacle or exposed in the Monstrance), your major problem in life will be solved. He said that you become like a magnet for graces from Heaven.

It is inspiring when our, or another local Catholic Church, has an adoration chapel that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is called Perpetual Adoration and means that someone must commit to an hour of Adoration at each hour of the night and and day and those committing to a night hour must then get up to make their commitment. The goal is for there to be two people committed for each hour of the day and night in case one cannot be there for some reason.

Jesus said: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.”  The best fruit of our frequent visit is we can develop a personal relationship with Jesus. In the quiet of the chapel, away from the noise of the world, the Lord can speak to our heart.

It is also inspiring to see the people who come in wheelchairs and those who come with their walkers, and those who come with their oxygen tanks, wanting to praise God who has allowed them to suffer. And, it is also inspiring to see families adoring Jesus together.

St. Joseph Benedict LaBre, who was known as “The Beggar Saint of Rome,” spent his nights sleeping in the open arches of the Coliseum, and his days praying in churches, especially those where the Forty Hours Devotion was being observed. While in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, he would have a luminous glow on his face, revealing the intense fire of love for the Blessed Sacrament. Spending five to six hours at a time before the Tabernacle, his face, normally colorless, glowed with a rosy hue all the while. He died at 35. So great was the crowd at his funeral that troops had to be called in to maintain public order. Within a few months of his death, more than 130 miracles ascribed to him were recorded. His memorial is celebrated on April 16.

“Where your treasure is, there is your heart...”

“Could you not watch one hour with me?” (MT 6:21,26-40)

Is Jesus important enough to spend one special hour each week to be with Him?
